You can certainly freeze cooked quinoa, which is a handy healthy meal prep option. Once the cooked quinoa has fully cooled, transfer it into a sealable plastic bag. Remove as much air as possible before sealing the bag, and flatten the quinoa into an even layer before placing it in the freezer. When you’re ready to use it, simply thaw it overnight in the refrigerator. Alternatively, you can freeze it in an airtight, freezer-safe container as well.

How To Freeze Quinoa

  1. Prepare the quinoa following the instructions on the package. If you don’t have instructions, combine 1 part uncooked quinoa with 2 parts water or broth in a saucepan. Bring it to a boil, then reduce the heat to a simmer, cover, and cook for 15 to 20 minutes. Turn off the heat and let it stand for a few minutes to ensure the liquid is fully absorbed.
  2. Allow the cooked quinoa to cool completely.
  3. Transfer the quinoa to freezer-safe bags or containers, ensuring a tight seal. Don’t forget to label them with the name of the food and the date.
  4. Store the quinoa in the freezer until you’re ready to use it.

How Long Can You Store Cooked Quinoa?

Cooked quinoa stored in the freezer will remain fresh for about 6 months. To ensure its quality, place it in well-sealed containers or bags, making sure to remove as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn.
